Review check-ins
Plan check-ins at any point in onboarding and probation, let reviewers record a summary and rating, and give new hires a place for their own comments.
Documentation (17)
Check-ins are reviews during onboarding and probation. You decide how many there are and when — DayOneFlow does not hard-code 30, 60 and 90 days.
Where check-ins come from
- The onboarding plan. Every task of type Review becomes a check-in when the journey starts. Its due rule sets the date — for example 30, 60 or 90 days after the start date, or 14 days before the probation end — and its owner is the reviewer: the manager (following manager changes), a named member or the HR team.
- Added by HR. On the new hire’s Reviews tab, choose Add a check-in, enter a Title and Due date, choose the Reviewer (the new hire’s manager or a named member) and choose Add check-in. The reviewer is notified.
Check-ins move with start-date changes and probation extensions like any other task, and HR can reassign them.
Writing a check-in
The reviewer opens the check-in from their tasks or notifications and fills in:
- Summary (required to submit);
- Rating (optional), from “1 – Well below expectations” to “5 – Well above expectations”;
- Strengths (optional), Concerns (optional) and Next actions (optional).
Save draft keeps it for later; Submit review completes it and its task. Submitting twice changes nothing.
Who sees what
| Who | Can |
|---|---|
| The reviewer | Save a draft and submit. |
| HR and admins | See every check-in, add check-ins, reopen a submitted one or cancel an open one (with a reason). |
| The new hire’s manager | Read the check-ins of their new hires. |
| The new hire | See the date and whether it is done, and add or change their own comment while it is open. Never the reviewer’s notes or rating. |
| Anyone else | Nothing — not even that it exists. |
The new hire’s comments
In their portal, under Your check-ins, the new hire can write Your comments (optional) and choose Save my comment. The reviewer sees the comment on the check-in, and the Reviews tab marks check-ins with a comment from the new hire.
Reopen or cancel
HR and admins can Reopen review… a submitted check-in (the reviewer can change and submit it again; its task goes back to to do) or Cancel review… an open one that is no longer needed (its task is cancelled too). Both need a reason and are recorded.
Reminders
A reviewer is reminded in the app when a check-in is due within three days — named reviewers by email too — and in the app when it is up to a week late. The check-in anchored to the probation end is shown as the final review on the Probation tab.
